Best compromise 22lr between benchrest target + hunting?
I know there is no one size fits all when it comes to anything - including firearms. But if you had to choose one rifle which you would use for benchrest (with a scope) up to 100 yards and take out for the occasional bunny bashing - which would it be?
I'm thinking something heavy barreled (I don't mind the extra weight).

Yes, saw that :) My question was slightly different with the hunting aspect to it, but i've taken note of the comments.Kungfugerbil wrote:http://www.full-bore.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=27828

I'm thinking:
CZ455 Varmint
Anschutz 1417 (not sure which sub-model)
Anschutz Match 54/64
Sako Finnfire II

I suspect more bunnies are bashed with CZs (or BRNOs) than anything else. You'll also find them on the rack of pretty much every gun shop in the land, and the mods to turn a 452 into a benchrest rifle are well documented - see PDF below:
http://www.erabsf.org/FAQs/CZ452Varmint ... sation.pdf
Some things will be a compromise - an ounce trigger is no good for the field, and a 3lb pull won't help your benchrest. Similarly a 60x scope is overkill for 50yd bunnies.
There's no wrong answer from your choices to be honest - if you're not specifically after new I would expand the CZ selection to include 452s and even BRNOs. Try some out and see what fits you and your wallet!

I'm open to both new or used. First need to decide what the best tool for the job is - then make that particular decision. I have read that the 452's are perceived to be better than the 455's. Is there any truth to this?Kungfugerbil wrote:I suspect more bunnies are bashed with CZs (or BRNOs) than anything else. CZ 453. It has a 'normal' trigger pull of around 2-3lbs, which is fine for bunny bashing, and it also has an adjustable set-trigger that goes down into the low ounce range. It is also extremely accurate. Mine is, anyway, so I assume they all will be (more or less!).

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
