.17 HMR Question

#1 Post by Nelly2014 »

I have wondered why can't we have .17 HMR semi-auto rifle? It's a rimfire, a modified WMR round isn't it?

Yes, but it isn't .22"

Semi autos are allowed in .22 rimfire.

Not "any" rimfire, unfortunately...

Legal issues aside, there are only a few in existence, they have been difficult to develop a blowback action for due to the high pressures (or something like that)

It was actually a suggestion by Chief Constable Andy Marsh to allow semi-auto .17HMR (and .17Mach2) rifles in the proposed legislative changes following the Cumbrian shootings, but as no primary legislation was made it didn't come to anything.

Functionality issues aside, it wouldn't be particularly viable here anyway. FMJ .17HMR isn't exactly plentiful, it exceeds most indoor range FPS limits and it costs 2x .22lr.

Savage has now worked out all the bugs and is selling a semi-auto in .17 HMR called the A17. Don't know about getting it into UK, but at least now one exists.

For those looking for .17HMR FMJ I believe Henry Krank has a small supply - very expensive.

True, but you shouldn't be missing with a lazer type/zero hold over round that 17HMR is!

Semi-auto / hunting / follow-up shots.

Now I really want chips.
