Re: Bringing equipment from the US (what is banned)?
A mate of mine a joint us UK citizen recently brought me in a kidd trigger unit, and 20 odd ruger mags and a stock....his bag got searched and they left a sorry u got searched leaflet inside the bag.....no probs or trouble whatsoever...I was told by 6 UK dealers that what he brought in would get him in trouble.....well it appears not...
When someone says "it's not about the money" you know what? it probably is all about money!

ANY magazine of 10-rd or under is exempt from ITARthe running man wrote:A mate of mine a joint us UK citizen recently brought me in a kidd trigger unit, and 20 odd ruger mags and a stock....his bag got searched and they left a sorry u got searched leaflet inside the bag.....no probs or trouble whatsoever...I was told by 6 UK dealers that what he brought in would get him in trouble.....well it appears not...
The main banned items on ITAR are cartridge cases & bullets, scopes with military style features, etc.
Still a lot of savings to be made PLUS a wider choice than UK importers & often a chance to buy items well before they're on UK shelves...

Just don't buy so much that you need a second bag, the charge for an additional bag will wipe out any savings made.

.....ask Phaedra!!! £65 per bag with Virgin.BamBam wrote:Just don't buy so much that you need a second bag, the charge for an additional bag will wipe out any savings made.

Speaking of magazines, the Magpul AICS 10 rd mags are marked as ITAR. So I only brought 6 of them back.

Sights are tricky. It very much depends upon the particular model. As I found out when I was there recently and wanted to buy one, ACOGs with certain reticles are ITAR controlled, but the identical model with a different reticle pattern is not.phaedra1106 wrote:Scopes in general are not prohibited, only those designated for military use or those with image enhancement built in. Your bog standard rifle scope is fine.jdwoodbury wrote:HI can see there are some prohibited items (such as scopes)

I can get round it though ..... Virgin no longer allow a free piece of "sporting equipment" but as we booked the flights before August 31st we still get one (up to 23Kg). If needed I will buy a 42" rifle case (or similar) and stuff it with various "bargains" and check it in as archery equipment free of charge :)saddler wrote:.....ask Phaedra!!! £65 per bag with Virgin.
The exchange rate has pretty much decimated my shopping carts at MidwayUSA, Brownells, Amazon.com etc., I was going to bring another Sightron SIII back, the 8-32x56 with the new MOA-H reticle, I brought one back last year for around £560, this year it's nearer £690. My first Midway order dropped from almost $400 to $91, there's a lot of stuff I want to bring back (like another SS tumbler and a press) but with the exchange rate and baggage charges it's making me think twice.
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)
