Ovenpaa sent me...
browsed this site multiple times but never stopped around to sign up...
Just getting into full bore shooting/reloading and have questions, so rather than ask over at guntrader.co.uk (which is a great site for using to fill slots on ur license!) I thought I'd sign up here!
a bit about myself:
I'm 24, and I started shooting when i was about 9, with my dad.
I shot occassionally for 4 years (shotgun, smallboreTR and occassional .357 lever action - unfortunately I was born a little too late and missed out on shooting my dads .357 magnum s&w handgun :'( )
Then my dad started working away, and was only home on weekends... so my shooting career ended. except for the occassional shot on weekends, or the odd game shoot that i got to accompany my dad on.
fastforward 11 years, and i FINALLY got my license and started filling the slots!
started with an Anschutz 1913 in 2213 stock (I think... the stocks from 20 upwards kinda look the same!
started getting better and better... until i shot this...
(a 98 - my best yet, done june 15th)
ever since then I've been shooting well below my average...
Also started shooting it outdoor at 50m and 100yards.... but i can't judge the wind at all yet - more practice/coaching required!
Then I bought myself a nice HK416d .22 - I have always loved the look of the M4/Tacticool style rifles, and well, sitting on guntrader.co.uk for so long everyday at work, it didnt take long before i shot off to my closest dealer with them and bought a new one!
The replica Eotech is now completely off the rifle and a scope put on - i wanted a decent holographic but the POS i bought on ebay just couldnt be zeroed! so i put a scope on to see how accurate the rifle is!
it needs tweaking, but its definately not bad...
Certainly a zombie basher - 1 .22lr to the brain should work... if not then pop another! its semi auto!
and most recently I bought yself an RPA Ranger for some full-bore goodness!
I've only Zeroed it at Bisley and shot at 4,5 and 600 yards once! (Oxford Open)...
I was using ammo older than myself and not particularly allowing for win, so my scores werent great... but definately a starting position to get better!
So yeah, now I'm into reloading - my dad had a press for his 357 so i used that, and bought some redding dies and other loading equipment and got started!
So far I've loaded 30 rounds, bu not shot a single one yet!...
...I'll continue that story on in reloading section though!
So yeah, thats me, and a little about my gun experience history!
So, Hi :)

Re: Ovenpaa sent me...
Well, I may be new to this forum, but I've been a regular on some forums for a great many years!
the number one rule I've found is that people read stuff alot more if its got some pictures posted in there too!
Thanks for the welcome :)
I'm sure I'll stick around a while and annoy the regulars with my stupidly simple questions about ballistics, and reloading mixtures, settings and well, general question'y type questions! :)

You mean like the rest of the forum
We have loads of people asking questions and loads of clever people answering them.
I am sure you will like it here.

Good to see you found your way over, a good introduction and some nice rifles as well. You really do need to get out and try that ammunition now. Oh, and find yourself a .303

Re: Ovenpaa sent me...
haha, the only space i have left on my ticket is reserved for a .223 - originally i planned to get a straight pull AR-15... but now I'm leaning towards an F/TR in .223 or F-class... cheaper to reload for 300-600 yards which is mostly the shooting i do when over at Kingsbury (the military wont let us go further back than them!...)

Re: Ovenpaa sent me...
Well the Ranger would make a good F/TR rifle and .223 is very capable in the right hands, Laurie Holland had his out to 1200 yards last week with good reports. The idea of such a skinny round being used at longer distances is appealing and the Viking (Christel) Shoots .224" bullets out to 1200 yards albeit with a a bit more bang behind them and when it isn't raining...TattooedGun wrote:haha, the only space i have left on my ticket is reserved for a .223 - originally i planned to get a straight pull AR-15... but now I'm leaning towards an F/TR in .223 or F-class... cheaper to reload for 300-600 yards which is mostly the shooting i do when over at Kingsbury (the military wont let us go further back than them!...)

Re: Ovenpaa sent me...
I dunno about using .223 out to those kinds of ranges...
Sure It might be possible... but talk abotu jumping in at the deep end!
my ranger (.308 - if I hadnt mentioned) will probably do the longer distances (900+yards)
was just thinking about something i could Zero and Use at those ranges(3-600yards) as its a bit more regular i can get on those kinds of ranges... although who knows!
I'm also thinking about something for .223 and do some vermin control, but I'd need the land.... - i know of some land i could get signed off on, but its 150 odd miles away, so isnt ideal...
I don't know of anyone round my way with land I could go foxing on...
something versatile enough to be able to fox with well, but also get onto the range and be competetive enough at local competitions for f-class/f.tr would be great!
but it's going to have to wait until next year atleast anyways!
all this buying top quality rifles to last me a lifetime (or until the govt. take them away - whichever comes sooner) is not doing much good to my bank account!
