Played with Hk416

#1 Post by Duey »

Went to the local club today just to have a bit of fun and let some friends try some rifle calibers the've not shot before, huge smiles all round

I got to try a HK416 22LR, was well impressed, and immense fun, 20 rounds just disappeared down range in an instant clapclap

I've been on the fence about black rifles until today, and as I've just sent my renewal in with a new slot requested for a 22LR, that I intended to fill with a semi auto, it almost certainly will be of the black rifle variety :D

I opened this thread thinking that you might have been lucky enough to have shot the real thing as I have.

The real 5.56x45mm HK416 (or MR223/556 in it's civilian suit) is a dream, certainly the best 5.56mm military-style rifle I have shot*, but the .22LR quasi-HK416 wouldn't be my choice of a .22LR "Black rifle", I think that one of the Sig-Sauer models offers better build quality and operation, but that's purely my own opinion of course.

* I was lucky enough to fire the HK MR223 in Luxembourg a couple of years ago - I shot the MR223 with Elcan Specter 1-4x optic and B&T suppressor. It belongs to a pal of mine who has a huge collection of firearms from .50cal M2 Browning downwards. Luxembourg has very liberal firearms laws, full-auto weapons are permitted on a collector's license and my friend owns several machine guns and a considerable number of assault rifles and SMGs.

If you're going to go black rifle I'd be looking at something more parts compatible then the Walther guns.

A smith and Wesson if you're on a budget or a cmmg/spikes if you can stretch the funds...

The Walters are good fun but not the best in terms of build quality or upgrades.

CMMG would be the way to go IMO.

Yeap I would recommend any Armalite 15 clone in .22lr calibre to be honest over the S&W MP15-22 if you want the more realistic weight and handling. Saying that the S&W MP15-22 is a fine rifle, and I consider one to compliment my two Spikes for my lad as it light and reliable.

As has been said above S&W, CMMG, Spikes, a.n.other all have good and bad reviews out there.

I have never seen a bad review re the S&W. They are the 'AK' of black rimfires IMO.

They purportedly work well, but they feel and look like an airsoft gun.

Some of the early S&W-M&P15-22 suffered from barrel droop which occured apparently from a combination of a hot climate & lots of rounds through it. This was resolved by S&W in the Gen 2.

It could all be hearsay, but I am sure I read that on the internet somewhere so therefore it must be true.

Bad review doesn't have to be about how a gun functions, but could be down to silly things like buffer tubes etc. All I was trying to say is that all rifles / manufacturers have there own fanbase like any other product out there.
