Another California Off Road Trip

#1 Post by rufrdr »

A few pictures from an off road trip back in late October. This one was up into the mountains around Kern and Lake Isabella. It was a nice change from the desert trips we usually do.

This is a former forest service fire watch tower that can now be rented for $40 a night.

The view from the tower

That's my Jeep; we're making our way slowly along. The picture doesn't capture the grandeur of the area. Not what most folks think of when mentioning southern California!

Lovely pictures however it did rather rub it in as the house was 7C inside when we woke up and a lot colder outside :(

Hey Alan, good to hear from you. I'm well and still doing lots of shooting. The shooting mob and I are off to the range this Saturday. Trying to decide what to take. I may bring my new/old M1 carbine for the rest of the shooters to try out

Come on back to L.A. for some more shooting sometime!

Since we're talking about old fire watch towers, this is one I visited several months ago. I was feeling pretty much under the weather so I rode with a friend and his pooch and left my Jeep at home. There aren't too many of these left that are still active; Butler Peak near Fawnskin CA is the best example of a working and manned tower.

This area burned fairly recently
