Flintlock Pistols -Talk to me!

Hello all,

I'm contemplating breaking (my) tradition and buying something that doesn't have accessory rails I'm quite fancying a flintlock pistol but a quick Google search has yielded very little. I don't want to buy an antique, rather a gun made newly of modern materials, however every time you search for "reproduction/replica" you invariably get non-fireable wall decorations (not even S.58's).

This is literally the polar opposite of the type of guns I'm used to so I'd appreciate any help you could give me

1/ Finding somewhere that sells repro pistols
2/ Recommendations of what to buy
3/ A list of equipment to run the gun for general plinking

Kranks is a must, a visit is cool, the website is good, the catalogue is better. A search on guntrader has the category pistol (black powder) and is then filterable down to flintlock. You can also look on YouTube for review vids and stuff, the cap and ball channel I can recommend, especially the vid on shooting a pedersoli le page out of the box, although it's the percussion version.

I have the same hankering at the moment, and am on the lookout for something flinty, preferably by Pedersoli. Wether a flintlock is the way to go if you are new to black powder muzzle loading I can't say, I started with percussion and will progress to flint, just seems less to worry about, but you pays your money you takes your choice.

I've been in Kranks a few times but always just flying visits for ammo, quite the Aladdins cave from memory! I think a trip down there or swinging in on the way back from a southern PSG match might be in order

Typical, the one I like the look of the most is twice as expensive as most of the pistols at Kranks!! (An IX De Gendarmerie)

You need to decide on rifled or smooth bore.

My current favourite flintlock pistol is an Indian dragoon horse pistol replica flinter in .625" smoothbore, it holds the black on a PL12 target at 25 yrds shot standing, one handed, if I do my bit.

The Indian copies are usually pretty good, the lock time in mine is like sh!te off a shovel, really impressively fast.

What about making one from a kit, they are available and it means it has your own personal touch.

That's the one that keeps drawing my eye too. Seems unavailiable though
