Mmmm.... Do I sell, to get?

#1 Post by Sim G »

Yep, Ruger Gunsite Scout is available....... in my local shop........ Blued metalwork, 18.5" barrel as opposed to 16.5" over the pond. No muzzle brake, but factory screwcut so an aftermarket could be easily fitted.....

£1115 retail........

Not bad when you consider a Marlin Cowboy is £1080.

But, I did have my heart set on a Savage Scout to replace the awful Steyr. But, new clutch on the wifes car and a couple of other "buys" has left the gun fund a little light so I would have to sell to fund...... :-P
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

The Ruger Scout LOOKS like a great rifle but has had mixed reviews in the US. Rugers albeit reliable are a mixed bag when it comes to accuarcy. I'm not bashing I have a ruger gp 101 .357 and 20 years of shooting and fixing Mini 14's.

That's what keeps me from jumping on it straight away. I've long been a fan of Cooper, the Scout Rifle concept and Ruger, but, sketchy accuracy is keeping the leash on me.

I have a Ruger VT in .243 that was a very accurate rifle. A mate in my club also had a Ruger VT in .223. His wouldn't shoot for toffee....

What's wrong with an old Parker Hale Scout? My pal has one and it is excellent - far better than a Ruger.

What is a Sapper? This versatile genius condenses the whole system of military engineering and all that is useful and practical. He is a man of all work of the Army and the public ready to do anything or go anywhere, in short, he is a Sapper.

Go for the Savage - you'll end up finding fault with Ruger, because you're already having doubts about getting it.

Then again why buy when you can build - my Ishapore Scout only cost £ 250 all up!

Well Sim, have you decided - Ruger or Savage?

Yep, the decision is made. And that decision is; I'm undecided!!!

In all honesty, it'll probably be the Savage........

(I do know it won't be another Steyr......!!)
