Hi from another new member

#1 Post by ptheta »

Just signed up and thought I'd say hello to you all. I picked my user name simply because it's one I made up ages ago and I use it on lots of other forums (airgunbbs, ar15, cast boolits).

I live in Basingstoke and shoot with The Forresters Shooting Association (TFSA, Bracknell) and Romsey Shooting Club. I've been shooting clays and PSG/3 gun for a while now and have recently got into fullbore. I have a Schmidt-Rubin K31 and a No.4 and get up to Bisley about once a month, which I squeeze in between the TFSA indoor range, PSG, and clay shooting. I wouldn't want you to run away with the impression that I'm any good at any of these disciplines. I just do it for fun rather than competition.

I've been doing a bit of shot shell loading and will be moving onto pistol calibre reloading in the new year to get a bit of experience before finally moving on to loading for my full bore rifles. I've done a little bit of smelting and moulding for 12g slug so I'll probably be looking into cast boolits at some point too.

I only target shoot at the moment but wouldn't mind taking the .22 out for some rabbits if I could ever find somewhere to do it.

Hello to everyone!
Paul.

P.S. I found out about the forum via an advertisement in the latest NRA journal.

I was looking at the shot shell re loading gear in the new Sinclair's catalogue. It is not as expensive as you might think considering how much of it there is. No space in my current home but would consider it in the future should we ever move.

Welcome to the Forum,

Welcome to the forum Paul, sounds like you have a good selection of rifles to work with. I am still tempted by a Schmidt-Rubin at some point, unfortunately I am also tempted by many other rifles and only have a finite amount of cabinet space left. This is a new forum and already there are a few of us here that shoot service rifles so you should fit right in.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys.

A technical question for you, is it possible to set my account to auto subscribe to threads that I create or post to? I had incorrectly assumed that I would receive emails when there were replies to my threads but I've just popped back in and realised that there have been several replies while I was away.

I haven't been on cast boolits long so I didn't know Dromia personally although I do recognise his fine mugshot from a few posts that I've followed on there. :-)

To be entirely truthful, I have only really had the fever for full bore since I tried it when I was out in Canada in March. A friend of mine arranged for me to go shooting with a guy in Calgary called Brian Kent who runs Pro Line Shooters II out there and was the weapons master on various films and TV productions, probably the most famous of which is Lonesome Dove. He took me out to the range and I played with a few of his toys, specifically 30-06, 45-70, 300WM, 338WM, and 340 Weatherby Magnum. For some unaccountable reason I've been hooked since then.

Paul.

Any thread that you are interested in keeping an eye on just "subscribe topic" at the top of the thread.

Also when you post a new thread or reply to one you can select 'Notify me when a reply is posted' from the bottom.
