Eye problems

I was having huge issues yesterday. Shooting outside at 50 metres, 50 yards and then 100 was okay but I was asked to go inside and shoot two cards at 25. The foresight is nice and sharp but I was having real problems seeing the target, infact at one point i couldn't see any of the five diagrams on the side of the card I was shooting. I tried adjusting everything I could on my rear sight but nothing really improved things. There had been a decent gap between outside and inside shooting so it wasn't because i was going from bright to dark i think.
Maybe it was because I was tired (I was absolutely shattered as I had to repeat my 50 yard shoot as they gave me the wrong cards). Dehydrated maybe? Do I get my eyes tested? Can anyone recommend a shooting friendly optician around the Derby area? If can get the foresight pin sharp is there anything an optician can do for me?
Sorry for all the questions but it was an immensely frustrating afternoon!!

Do you wear a hat or headband with visor &/or side blinds? A blind on the non-shooting eye?

If so, try taking these off. The low ambient light indoors means the pupil opens-up reducing the depth of field, and getting as much light as possible into both eyes can help.

I use on of those translucent bits of plastic that fits on the rear sight.

I had similar problems a few years ago when old tired eyes began to catch up on me.

I was recommended to try EyePal by a friend in the US and was amazed how well I could see the sights and target with just my normal shooting glasses.

I got one of those adjustable apertures for the shooting glasses years ago for the pistol, worked well 'till I lost it turning the advancing man wheel at Bisley.

After that I just used electrician's tape with a suitable sized hole punched in it, punching is important as poking doesn't work, and never looked back, works just great if an aperture helps your sight picture, cheap as chips well as cheap as an inch of electrician's tape and no worries about loosing it.

I use a set of fine leather work punches.

The small one on one of those wheel punch tools is also good.

I'm already using an aperture rear sight so would this help in addition to that?

I use an eyepal, but trying to line up the hole in the eypal, look through the aperture sight (another hole) and then find find the front sight and then line the 3 up with the target is too much multi-tasking for me!
