SGC-v22 AR

#1 Post by waterford103 »

I've owned this for some years now , used principally for rabbits and crows but also down at the range fun shooting . I've never been impressed with it's accuracy and have gone through many brands of 22rf ammo trying to find the holy grail. It's ok on rabbits up to about 50yds but grouping on paper 2" at best at 100yds. I don't tend to clean my .22's , just the boltface and breech but today I thought I'd give it the works , stripped it completely and even clean the barrel. Imagine my horror upon discovering a loose bit in the rifling 3" from the muzzle . Closer inspection with my el cheapo ebay borescope revealed a bulge approx .75" long ! . Hmmm .! OK - barrel in lathe , clocked up and parted off the bulged bit , turned down the muzzle to .5" and re-threaded it to half inch x 28 tpi and re-crowned it . Finished length 13.5", fitted a shorter handguard and reassembled it all. Test group at 25yds put 5 shots of RWS into one ragged hole . I wonder if the bloke who sold it to me knew about the ring or just couldn't get it to group.
Job well done , I'd pat myself on my back but I can't reach ;¬)))

No pictures, it didn't happen....

You know the "rules"!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Did well to group 2" @ 100 yrds with that bulge. I have the same model from new - went down to Bob's place to collect it. Have always been impressed with it and the speed of the few repairs I needed (broken firing pins) over the countless thousands of rounds it's spat out.
