A friend has a ROA which has a replacement nipple that allows the use of 209 shotgun primers.
Is such a conversion available for a Pietta 1858 Remington?
I have seen a system the Pedersoli offer, but it appears to be for indoor use with no powder charge.

Re: Muzzle loader nipple conversion
I enquired about this recently for my own Remington .44 New Model Army.
There isn't a specific kit - the nipples are about £60 for a set of six. But in order to set off shotgun primers you need to modify the hammer so that it has a striker - the hammer face being flat in its original state.
Also, and peeps often don't mention this, the flash holes in the nipples are much bigger than standard - so when charging / loading with the barrel upwards powder tends to trickle out the back. So you have to plug them up until putting the caps in place. All in all it proved too much of a faff for me to bother - quite expensive too, I thought.

"Trickling" depends upon the size of the powder particles!
We (South London Rifle Club and the Surrey Branch of the MLAGB) have included this sort of firearm in our OPEN MEETINGS FOR REPEATING PISTOLS at Bisley.
The next one (SLRC) is the middle weekend of the Imperial Meeting (alongside NRA ML and GR matches) - 15th & 16th JULY -- and scorecards are £5.
Classes for STANDARD PERCUSSION REVOLVER (i.e., El Cheapos + originals) one and two-handed , PERCUSSION TARGET REVOLVER (i.e., "Standard" + the costly specials + Rugers) one-handed only; FREE PERCUSSION (more or less anything except using laser sights!) and then MODERN MUZZLE-LOADER -- with sub-classes for "Patriot", nitro conversions of percussion revolvers and the "Alfa" etc. -- again, one and two-handed matches.
Courses of fire are all 20 shots (4 x 5) plus optional sighters:-
SLOWFIRE -- 3 minutes / series; TIMEDFIRE -- 1 munute/series; RAPIDFIRE -- 30s/series;
"BOBBER" (turning targets -- 5s faced, 10s edged) and "SURRENDEN" (against the clock).
Details etc from slrc (at) jimhallam (dot) eu
The Surrey Branch MLAGB Meeting is 10th September -- same format ---
