Had one which I did a few simple mods to in order to get it to function properly - fussy on ammo, quickly got full up of unburned powder, Not accurate enough for my needs. OK for practical mini rifle and that's about all. Too small in my hands too. Got fed up with it jamming and got rid!Hrun wrote:The Ruger.. because? It would be helpful if you could elaborate.. My pal has a Smith and Wesson which works but I've never had a play with it.Alpha1 wrote:So what is your recommendation for a .22 semi auto to use for practical shooting.dodgyrog wrote:I'd put Ruger 10/22 and Rossi underlevers in the same category - don't touch with a barge pole!Alpha1 wrote:I have recently purchased a CZ452 and I am very pleased with it. A great little gun I got it second hand for a very reasonable price. My next purchase will probably be a ruger 10/22 stainless synthetic. I have owned one in the past they just work and can be got second hand for reasonable money.
I'm sure if you spent a lot of money on a fully tricked up 10/22 it would do what you want but I really don't get on with any .22 semi-autos

Re: .22lr advice needed
I have two Ruger 10-22s, one with a suppressor and one without. I am quite pleased with the accuracy. Mind you, I have replaced the triggers on both with the Ruger BX-22 replacement.
Re: .22lr advice needed
I have two 10/22. One is the Target model and is as accurate as you like, just heavy compared to a normal one, I have shot it to 200 yards with accuracy that surprised everyone I was with, I suspect with a better scope the group would shrink further.
I then bought a second with the standard sporter barrel and although not as pinpoint in accuracy it is still pretty good, certainly good enough for what I need it for. What sort of accuracy at what distance do you want? I don't hunt or shoot vermin but if I did I would be comfortable with potting rats in the head at 50 yards every shot. I've only shot this one to 100 yards.
I bought both S/H. The Target was 360 quid, the other was 250 with a butler creek folding stock, scope and 'muzzle device'.
I've put all sorts of ammo through them both and all have fed reliably with both probably nudging the anus of around 10k rounds each from me. No problem cycling any subs I have tried, although I have yet to try CCI Quiets.
I've also got an old CZ452 I picked up off of a club member for 150 quid, it's lightweight and it's a tackdriver. I've not got it out further than 100 yards yet but I intend to use it mainly 100-300 yards. At 100 yards it was creating multiple sub-MOA groupings from the first time I shot it at that distance.
So, bargains can be had, and I have had some good 'uns.

Re: .22lr advice needed
My 1994 dated CZ452 LUX, shoots SK Standard Plus, 40grain, at sub one inch (typically 3/4inch) groups at 100yds. The rifle cost me £135, and the 2nd hand Hawke scope was £50.... so for well under £200 i can shoot consistently good groups with my preferred ammo, for around 10pence per round. No complaints here!

As an armourer in a lage club, the only lever action rifle make which has never given any trouble over the last 20 tears is the Rossi.

I've had a cz, really great little rifle. I've had five 10/22 rifles, they're good bits of kit, not quite as reliable as the .22AR's I've had but accurate with the right barrel and ammo.
