CMMG AR15 mag binding woes

#1 Post by Gazza »

Can anyone suggest a cure for my AR mags which are binding when I get to around the 15 round mark?
The mags should hold 25 rounds and did without hitch until a week or so ago when the 15th or so round started to bind on both mags when inserted.
I've stripped the mags which have only had around 2000 rounds through them and they were dirty inside so cleaned them and smeared the spring well and cartridge well with silicon gun oil.
On trying to fill them the same thing is happening???
The mags are the evo CMMG mags.

Evo mags are crap, they need to be dry lubed and then the highest capacity I ever got mine to work at reliably was 19 rounds.

Gen 1 CMMG mags are much better, though they will not operate the now defunct BHO from CMMG.

Dont you have to stick shims on those mags to make them fit the mag well on the CMMG?

Yep, get the shims when you order the Catch 22.

Spending a grand on a rifle then having to make another makers mags fit with bits of plastic is going against the grain heavily here wtf
I've just nipped out and bought some dry lube spray.
I've stripped and lubed the mags again and done a few 25 round loads with no problems (so far) :good:

Fair enough, that mod will give you an ultra reliable rifle with full last round hold open ability as it was designed to do. ;)

It'd go against my grain too. Get in touch with the buggers and let rip on them for a replacement.

Course, should have got a Southern Gun Co. or Bradley if you wanted it to go bang repeatedly... too late now though. :)
