That's interesting, glad they've done more testing and we have a range to work with now.
Interesting to see that 777 residue is more hygroscopic than BP and Pyrodex residues and must be why the ML guys at my club all immediately wash their pistols out with hot water and detergent immediately after shooting.
Other than that what about makes it inferior to BP and Pyrodex chaps?

Isn't that enough, the real problem is its extremely limiting safe loading boundaries, so very little load flexibilty compared to Pyrodex and BP. I have also found it to be extremely compression sensitive so difficult to get consistency. It is also very expensive for what it is, £50 for a pound of the stuff against £68 for 2 2/10ths lbs of high quality Swiss powder. Or £18.50 for a lb of Krankies own brand nutty slack or £37 for a lb of Pyrodex.
If you just want the gun to go bang, have no worries about the cost aren't bothered about getting the very best out of your muzzle loaders, feel comfortable with its pressure spiking propensity and don't care if your gun corrodes or not then go for it.

Ok, I think that about covers it...
I'll play around with it within it's limitations until I pick up some more experience and see if can get one of the old boys who use real BP to help me shoot a few cylinders of the stuff through my revolver and get a feel for the real stuff too.
Many thanks for all the info chaps.

It would be a lot easier, sensible and safer all round to get experience with the more forgiving and easier to use black powder first and then move onto the more finicky tripple seven.

That makes sense but the body of experienced chaps I have available to me shoot 777... :/

That in itself is quite telling, Flash, that the guys at your club haven't really researched Triple 7. One of its big selling points when launched for inline muzzle loaders, was that whilst out in a hunting camp, the only thing needed to clean up Triple 7 is cold, clean running water! At home, that is the sink and in camp, a stream or river...
If you can use Pyrodex use it. If you can use real BP on your range, get your explosives ticket and use that instead.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

My BP licence has arrived! Finally I can get experience with the more forgiving and easier to use Black Powder and stop using the finicky Triple Seven that I had to use before having the paperwork through.dromia wrote:It would be a lot easier, sensible and safer all round to get experience with the more forgiving and easier to use black powder first and then move onto the more finicky tripple seven.
PS Would Triple Seven be good for putting on the rosebed?

Just to update this thread, Hodgon say they never realsed any material which would imply that the cahrges were to be followed discretely and not as a range.

My "misinformation" came directly from Hodgdon when I was communicating with them about the issues I was having with the powder.

I might actually still have the original safety information leaflet which stated so.
