I'll give you some bad news and then some good news. With regard to your application I wouldn't expect a speedy response as they've been retiring FEOs or making them redundant recently and they're very short on man power. I've had a variation in the pipeline that requires a visit since April and not heard anything yet. I did ring the FEO and make sure Winchester had passed it onto him and he confirmed that he had it but just couldn't tell me when he'd be able to get through his back log and get to me.

The good news is that when you do finally meet him the Basingstoke FEO is a really nice bloke and easy to get along with. As long as you meet all the necessary requirements you should get what you want.

Aha, I can see how that might put a stop to any such tales. But I bet there are advantages to having your good lady interested in the same expensive hobby as you. Christmases and Birthdays must be good!

Oddly enough I cannot remember the last gun related birthday present I had but she did end up with a 6,5-284 S&L on her FAC about the same time as her birthday.I suspect a zombie gun if she has her way is going to be something black in12 gauge with a large magazine loaded with slug. Also known as a target shotgun.

I shoot with The Forresters indoor near Bracknell and at Bisley, also with Romsey Shooting Club but the latter is practical shotgun. Is PSG something that interests you? There are pretty regular shoots run by Romsey up at Popham in addition to the clay shooting that goes on there.

Never thought about shotguns at all to be honest. I do like practical rifle though, so it may be something I consider in the future. I'm sure funds and free time will mean the not-so-near future though!

What do you shoot at Bisley?

I only shoot full-bore up at Bisley. I have a couple of old wooden rifles and a third on the way when that variation eventually comes through. My shooting is very much of the fun variety. I don't go in for competitions and mega-accuracy. If I get a couple of v-bulls at 600m with my rifles I think I've done well, not that it's all that important if I don't.

The practical shotgun stuff is a real laugh. Close range (5m to 10m) rapid fire with high capacity shotguns against steel plates, poppers, Texas Stars and the like is brilliant fun. I've done some two gun stuff recently as well where you switch to your .22 part way through.

Does your club do target shotgun at all? If so you'd have good reason for section 1 shotgun. You can easily get an old pump for under £200. Remember it's a five year plan. You don't need to buy them all at once. :-)

The LPSC shoot Practical Shotgun, which I'm guessing is similar(same?) as target shotgun, but I've never attended any of those shoots. May have to go along to the next one and check it out, sounds like fun.

Good point on the 5 year plan too, I hadn't thought of it like that, but makes sense now you mention it.
