Which cartridge belt for starting practical shotgun

#1 Post by Cutch »

Which cartridge belt should i buy for starting practical shotgun?

I know there's loads of types and some can be very expensive etc but i was wondering what belts people thought might be better for a novice like myself?

I have bought myself a Benelli M2 SP and i am looking forward to starting practical but i don't want to hinder myself buy buying the wrong belt at the start.

Start with this.

It will get you started and once you get to to a PSG range you can try other loading styles that the others are using.

The most efficient way is loading 2 or quads and the choice for quads is between Ezload & Magload.

Loading 2 is the easiest to learn and easier if your shotgun isn't radically opened up, which it will need to be for quad loading.

My club has various belts and sometimes I borrow one of them to try different styles.

For loading on the move I still like loading from a weak hand, which means some call me a dinosaur. My times are not the fastest, but I'm never last on the scores, so I'm fairly happy with that.

If you have time, you could always make your own load 2 and quad load belts just to see what you get on with.

I started with the single clip belt BamBam suggested from Norman Clarke. I then had a look at what people were using and built two cheap belts from pipe clips bolted to aluminium plates which were then attached to a cheap weight lifting belt. Certainly weren't the nicest looking belts but they gave me an idea about what worked for me and then I bought kit based on this experience.

Some people looked down on my homemade belts, but I'd rather spend 20 quid rather than 300 quid only to realise that loading style doesn't work for me.

Just get a Chameleon belt. You will try various other options and get one of these anyway so save all the messing about and just get one.

Well looks like my thread was moved from competitive shooting to here! Took a while to find it again in the middle of an ocean (offshore) thanks for that.....

I can’t watch Amy YouTube videos due to crappy connection offshore guys but I appreciate your help. I am getting the site unblocked from the IT department to look at the first options thanks mate, also can’t seem to find a Chameleon cartridge belt anywhere apart from New Zealand! Is there a uk supplier? I quite like the look of that option.

I believe the Chameleon belt is no longer made so anything knocking around for sale will be second hand. Not necessarily a bad thing, just means sourcing one can be a pain.

That’ll explain it. I’ll have a look over the sales sections on the forums etc and see what’s about. Cheers

Right I’ve managed to find some magload caddy’s. Now it says it uses the teklok style belt clip, is that the style of belt or clip? Does this clip attach to any normal leather belt or is there a specific belt I need to buy too?

The techloks are adjustable for different belt widths, I believe up to 2 inch.
