Browning SA 22
Woe is me.
I had a suspicion my browning SA22 take down was not quite firing true and so took it to the range last night.
At 20 yrds the grouping was high and to the left a whole 2 inches out.
As the rifle dates from the 1950s and they aint rare i have the temptation to simply send it off for melting.
The barrel is as perfectly on as i i could make it and the sights whilst not perfect looked aligned to me.
2 others at the range could get no better out of it.
So what should i expect to pay for doing the public service of being honest.
Or does anyone have a magical solution that won't cost loads

What size is the group? If you adjust the sights so they shoot where the gun does, how does it do then?
Also, have you given the barrel a good scrub?

Re: Browning SA 22
Try another brand of ammo.
Adjust sights.
Mine works very well with Eley subsonics.

Re: Browning SA 22
I found mine to be particularly sensitive to the setting of the barrel nut, a fraction out left the barrel loose in the action.

We always finds the fault lies with the nut behind the barrel...
Most of the time it's us.

The barrel was fairly recently cleaned (the week before and 70 odd rounds ago) and we tried it with 3 brands of standard ammo (CCI, Eley and one other) but not subs..... ill give them a try first.
So far as the barrel nut was concerned i was sure it was set right but of course now i want to double check that.
But if all else fails what then.

Re: Browning SA 22
Have a gunsmith (or yourself if you’re confident) take it apart and put it back together again.
Re: Browning SA 22
Huzzzah.
Excellent advice I haven't adjusted the barrel nut but took it apart and reassembled. (it probably moved slightly when i did that anyway)
Its firing fine now and seems to like subs. Tried 3 different through it eley, lupa and winchester. liked the winchester best.
The group tightened up and at is being very point-able.
WHen i put standard through it again the group opened out. It really didn't like the Eley sport.
Thanks for pushing me to press on with it.
