Alloy AR stocks

#1 Post by Gazza »

Are the military still using alloy stocks on the M4/16's or have they moved over to polymer exclusively?
I could be years behind with this as I've just seen a picture of a civvy AR15 with a battered up alloy stock fitted but not sure how old it was.
Are the alloy ones available anywhere?

Never seen an alloy stock on one... the old M16 had a Bakelite looking stock in prototype and then a polymer stock in production I thought but the M4 had a polymer stock from day one as far as I can tell? Might it be a battered paint job?

I used to have an alloy stock on an SGC .22 AR and it was awful! Unnecessarily heavy, rattley as hell and freezing cold on the face during the winter, terrible!

Why on gods green do you want one?

Just for a change really. I'm always buying bits for this AR and swapping and changing things around.
Its like having a different gun after a furniture swap lol
If they are rare then they will be collectors money no doubt.

I'd have paid you to take it off my hands if I still had it!

I've been trying to find the article with the picture again but to no avail. It was one of those stumble across moments while looking for other stuff!
They switched to polymer due
to the welds breaking on the alloy stocks but strangely the Israelis kept the alloy ones for a while after.
Maybe a temperature issue??
Anyway, probably a bad move going that way. :D

That's what's on my M4gery, or one very like it.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.
