M3.5 x 10mm metric fine cap head machine screws, 2 needed.

#1 Post by Pete »

Can anyone help with these, please, or any idea where I can find them? I've tried the model fixings sites but they only have the standard coarse threaded types.

I'm trying to fit a scope to an ancient Match 54 dating from the early 50's, (I think).........still shoots and has a fantastic trigger, but only a short length of dovetail behind the loading port, so I need to utilise the two threaded holes in the top of the barrel just forward of the receiver.

Try any where selling electrical gear, M3.5 is standard socket box face plate thread.

I've looked at my usual suppliers of small and unusual screws in the UK,

Not had any luck.

www.accu.co.uk could probably make some for you, but they don't have stock.

I think the die and a lathe is probably your best bet. Possibly take a M5* and turn it down, then re-thread. Or make one from scratch.

Would an RFD be able to source them from Anschutz?

* cant use an M4 as the minor thread diameter is only about 3.1mm

They weren't available there when I was looking for some last year. I got the impression that this screw is too small for a cap head.

I have not seen screwcutting inserts below 0.5mm so I would assume the 0,35mm is going to be special order. I would be inclined to go for a spit die and machine screws out of brass to prove concept first of all.

Found them, so the inserts do exist off the shelf and at a sensible price which means the screws can be made although they would be a faff, I did some 48tpi screws recently and they were fine enough to make me wonder what I was going to get when the machine stopped :)

I've got some 2.5mm cap heads from them, but that was a while ago I admit.

I'm actually popping in there today for another hard-to-get thread, so I'll ask anyway.
