Considering how cheap a second hand 10/22 is you might as well have a crack at it. Whats the worst that can happen! Just make sure you get it proofed and all will be fine.

Re: Ruger 10/22 barrel.
No it only needs proofing if I want to sell it.
Re: Ruger 10/22 barrel.
Even if you got a variation foranother 10/22 barrel , the question is , can an RFD legally transfer an unproofed barrel to an FAC holder .
I suspect not .

Re: Ruger 10/22 barrel.
Proofing proves nothing other than at that time that gun fired an over pressure round, un-proofed guns give more peace of mind than ones that have been over stressed with and over pressure round.
Proofing is a money making monopoly and a national con as it is a redundant and ineffective way of testing firearms, also the quality of the way the proof houses are run leaves a lot to be desired and many a firearm has been damaged at the proof house just by mishandling.
The only reason I have guns proofed is because of the legal requirement to do so in certain circumstances otherwise I wouldn't put a firearm anywhere near the shysters.

We see barrels and firearms come in without proof from time to time. I even have a Pattern 1913 barrel without a meaningful Proof and a lovely Savage SxS with plastic stock that has never seen a Proof house.
