Despite being S1 are they worth looking at? It seems very cheap to me, especially as it is in Denmark.

Yes. yes. yes....Krags are probably the smoothest bolt action ever. 8X58R is a good calibre but it might be difficult to load for. The original bullet was .325" which is a bit of an odd size, but as with all the old rifles a bit of paper patching on a smaller bullet will often work well, so a .323" lead bullet with paper patch.....should be OK. Brass is available from Kranks or from Bertram. I could probably find the name of the agent in Australia that I got my cases through at about 30% less than Kranks charged.

Very much, YES!!

I shoot this round in my Swedish Rolling Block and it shoots great, very accurate.

If you have access to a lathe then the cases are easily made from 45-70 Government brass just turn the rims down, anneal and gently resize and finally fire form.

Paper patching works well but the Lee 324-175-1R is usually big enough and if not then a quick Beagle will fettle it. If not the 329 boolit will size down.

So easy to load for.

Yes it is section 1. The reason why, so I am told, is that there are supposed to be so many quizillion rounds in store that is thought will one day come onto the market. :G

So even although the round is no longer commercially produced it is still a section one round and so are firearms so chambered.

Ammunition for them is very scarce in Denmark, I have just been quoted GBP1.18 per loaded round

7,62x51 Milsurp has also gone up in a huge way over here and Norma .308 factory 190's are GBP14.15/20 which is a big leap even if it does shoot OK

My 8mm mould will cast to .325 so boolits are not a problem.

Could I suggest that it could be added? The list that Robin refers us to includes a lot of very obscure stuff but cannot have covered every single odd round out there. Knowing nothing about it could I suggest that 8x58R should be on that list but is an omission. I don't know who controls the list but it should be possible, by analogy, to persuade them that if X is on the list then Y should be?

Indeed, there is a caveat at the start of the list I linked to...

"The word 'antique' is not defined in the Act, but it is suggested that the categories below should be used as a guide in deciding whether a particular firearm might be considered an 'antique' for these purposes."

Perhaps there will be a fuller list when the FA Acts are consolidated...ahem!

It looks like the list is a Statutory Instrument (which makes sense). This means that it can be changed at civil servant level with just a minister's signature to make it effective. Not something they'll probably do for a single calibre but maybe something that we could ask the NRA to look at.
