New to shooting
Hi, First of all thanks for allowing me in.
I'm new to shooting and due to get my SGL anytime soon. I've been looking at the ATA Sp elegant.
Any views on these. Obviously keeping an open mind.
Regards

Hi
Welcome to the wonderful world of shooting.
Sorry I know nothing about ATA's, but the most important thing is gun fit.
Sometime a second hand gun for £50 may fit better than one that's £1000.
Get a try gun fitting for you then you know what to go for, a few lessons are a very good idea as well

One correction ... it will be an SGC - CERTIFICATE. You do NOT need to be licenced to have a shotgun.Shough59 wrote:Hi, First of all thanks for allowing me in.

Re: New to shooting
Welcome to the forum, as mentioned above it's you being certified, no licence involved. As also previously mentioned you either need to find a shotgun that fits you, or have one fitted. If you get some experience shooting at a local clay pigeon ground you may be able to handle a few different makes and models of shotguns to find out how they mount for you. For example, a lot of guys I know find Beretta and Browning over and under shotguns quite different and have a definite preference for the fit of one or the other. There's also some guys who can pick up almost any shotguns and shoot well with them.
A good quality second hand gun that fits can be a good investment and may leave you more money for cartridges and clays to build experience.

Re: New to shooting
To answer your original question... the ATA's are excellent guns for the money so if you find that they fit you well out the box then its a good way to go. They do also do an adjustable stock version which will help with fit.

How desperate are you to buy?
Obviously dependent on where you live, but during the summer there are numerous shows such as The Game Fair (July) where you can get to speak with the manufacturer and dealers of many different guns - and get the chance to try some of them too.
