Do any one us CCI .22LR segmented subsonic ammunition.
I have a need to use my .22LR ( instead of my .22 FAC air rifle ) on rats around farm buildings, and am I wondering what are the adavanages of this ammunition, particularly from a safety aspect when compared to conventional .22LR rounds.
From personal experience please can anyone help with an opinion.

Why (out of interest) would you think that segmented hollow-points would have a safety advantage? Surely the reason for them is to cause more wound damage and therefore a more certain kill for quarry such as rabbits. I know this is not personal experience on my part (apologies for that).

Just three bits to ricochet in stead of one.
Slow moving .22 bullets are more likely to ricochet than the high velocity ones.
For such work I use one of my 30-06 Springfields loaded to 1,000 fps with a hard lead, antimony rich frangible bullet. The mould is just like a hollow point/hollow base full wadcutter.

I use them in my SIG Saur 522 semi for rabbits, they do not group well in a lot of rifles but if you find one that likes them then they hit hard and I have never had a runner.

F C Ness's original articles, "A Glance-proof Lead-alloy Bullet" is in the June 1935 issue of the American Rifleman followed by "Sure Kill and No Ricochets" is in the August 1936 issue of the American Rifleman.
MP Molds did a mould run of this bullet design a few years ago, I bought one to keep my treasured original Hensley & Gibbs mould company.
