Portuguese 04/39 Mauser

I mentioned in a post that I had filled my last available slot on my FAC. The rifle I bought is a 1904 Portuguese Mauser converted in the late 1930s to 8x57mm. It is in nice condition with a nice clean shiny bore that doesn't look to have been used much. The follower still had some grease on it and the follower spring and inside the action were very greasy. I have shot it and it shoots very well. I used some Norma ammunition that I got cheap from a gun shop having a clear out of old stock, 50p per round. I bought all they had, 160 rounds. It shot to the sights with that at 200 yards. The photos are a bit poor but I thought I would post them anyway. It was a bit dull when I took them. An interesting rifle to have.

I have a Vergueiro also. They are lovely to shoot. I reload ammunition for mine with a 198gr head. Make sure you watch you tube before stripping the bolt down. Enjoy your purchsse

Dont you mean a 198g bullet. The head is the base of the case.

I had one of these a few years ago found it very short in the butt and harsh on recoil as they are a light rifle upgraded from 6.5mm to mauser 8x57mm
Have you tried to strip the bolt yet, comes apart very easy but is an absolute nightmare to reassemble.

I didn't find the recoil too bad. I have seen the you tube video on stripping and reassembling the bolt, he makes it look easy, but I have no reason to strip the bolt so it will be staying assembled.
