M16 in .22 WMR

Not sure if this is the right forum.
I'm considering getting an M16 in .22 WMR.
Wanted to know if anyone has had experience of these.
Also what ammo availability is, especially round Bisley.
I'm hoping to use the electronic targets at 100 , 200 and maybe 300 at Bisley.
Any feedback would be great.

I can't comment on on an M16 in .22WMR, but I can relate to using this calibre in a semi-auto.

I had a Mitchell Arms AK74 in .22 WMR and it would knock down fig 11's out to 300 yards on military ETR ranges, with no problems if I did my part.

I found my rifle was picky however when it came to ammunition.

Some would cycle the action just fine and some was sluggish, so I would suggest that you try out different brands before you lay out good money on rounds that might not function as you would expect.

I found that CCI Maxi-Mag was the best performer in my rifle.

Guncraft seem to be the go-to for them. Those who have them seem to be incredibly happy with the performance out to 300 yards.

I have a Guncraft AR15 in .22WMR and it is a lovely rifle. I've only used it 50-100m so far but i'm very happy with the accuracy and trajectory/lack of drop. I used to have a Sako Quad which was a multi-barrel rifle system and it came with software for Bullet Drop Compensation. I had the .22lr and .17HMR barrels but it allowed you to view the drop stats (with animated renditions) of the other two calibres it came in, .17MachII and .22WMR. ON that software the WMR trajectory looked like borderline artillery but my 50m zero saw it dropping just 1" at 100m

I used CCI Maxi-mag and Winchester Super X, both very similar in performance. And both monstrously expensive!

Other options are North West Custom Parts and the T2 series (www.t2rifles.co.uk) I think there's a few places supplying them now.

Blackstuff, where do you buy your ammo and how much does it cost.
i'm used to full bore prices so hopefully not as bad as thet.

I've just been buying in local gun shops (NE England) and the price has varied from £16.50-£18 per box of 50.

I haven't bought any fullbore rifle ammo for so long (because I handload) the only shop bought comparison I had was my .22lr, which I normally get CCI mini-mag (which is itself not a cheaper lr round), but thats £9-10 per 100 so its more than triple that cost and more expensive than factory 9mm as well.

Probably comparable to cheap/surplus .223 so if you're used to that you won't get as bad heart palpitations as I did when the RFD told me the price!

Picking up my M16 WMR on Monday.
Very excited, have bought original bipod and case and sling and bayonet from D&B militaria. Amazing they all came in their original wrappings, seemed almost sacrilage to open them. Quite reasonable prices too.
Also ordered the repro carry rail scope from Brownells, meant to a dead ringer for the colt original but with modern optics.
If anyone is interested ill post pics when I get it.
