Vickers Machine Gun Demonstration at Bisley, 3rd July

Re: Vickers Machine Gun Demonstration at Bisley, 3rd July
I was at the Vickers MG demonstration at the Armistice shoot at Bisley in 2018. Several belts of 250 shot in one long burst. I was glad I wasn't paying for the ammunition, a mix of HXP and S&B I was told. I would like to go and see this shoot, but an almost 500 mile round trip is just too much. It would be nice if an event like this could be held at Strensall ranges near York. It was at Strensall in 1963 that a Vickers was fired for a week putting five million rounds rounds through it. I wonder if the gun crew had ear protection then as it would make your ears ring firing a Vickers non stop in half hour shifts?

The CSR Methuen match is on Century all day before the display. Not a bad match to spectate if you want to make a day of it.

I won't be able to see it, but I can already hear it in my head.

I used to be a regular visitor to Knob Creek when I lived in Ohio (it was only 370 miles 'down the road'). After you've rendered a car in tatters, or blown 's*** up' with a brrrrppp of bullets from a machine gun your face starts to hurt from smiling. But I'm guessing this will be a very British affair and we won't get to do anything fun but watch a very regimented display.

Yes I think sending a couple of million rounds downrange and blowing the sh!te out of an old Ford Escort isn't the done thing over here

I think the general rule of thumb is 'if it sounds like fun then it's against the rules.'
