Going off topic is a normal bloke thing. How many conversations you have with your mates start with one topic and after a few minutes have veered off in another direction, it's what we do.

Can you find a single example of the the word 'head' being (mis)used to mean 'projectile' on any the websites of a major projectile manufacturer? (e.g. Sierra, Berger, Hornady etc)?Shpagin wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:32 pmI just searched "bullet heads" on Henry Krank's website and got offered 356 items over 5 pages, and absolutely every one of them was a projectile, not a cartridge.
all the images on a Google image search for bullet heads also gave projectiles. You might expect that from a non-expert source, but when Henry Krank thinks heads are bullet tops, not bottoms, it isn't clear that the issue is cut and dried.
I also offer you the SAAMI Glossary, which is perfectly clear on the meaning of 'head' in this context: https://saami.org/saami-glossary/?letter=H
SAAMI are tasked with the following goals, which makes unambiguous technical terminology vital to their work and communications:
- Creating and publishing industry standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality
- Coordinating technical data
- Promoting safe and responsible firearms use

Also you may wish to note Sphagin from the SAAMI glossary that nowhere therein is there such a thing as a "bullet head".

Just on an historical note in the muzzle loading days military powder and ball was held together in a tube of paper sealed at both ends.
This was called a cartridge, and from this we get cartridge paper.
As well as holding the components the paper also served as a filler and in many case e.g. the Brown Bess and the Pritchett cartridges served as a paper patch for the ball (projectile).

Be useful to know what happened, could possibly include it in future training to steer people onto the correct terminology.dromia wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 9:26 am Words have meaning and it is how that meaning is interpreted which make them more than just words.
The miss use of the heads word for bullet when the head is actually the base of the case has caused and is causing much confusion amongst tyro hand loaders and in at least one case, in my direct experience, of a near catastrophic incident due to the confusion caused by the misuse of the correct terminology.
