.30 Cast Bullets

#1 Post by phaedra1106 »

Hi All :)

Looking for some .30 cast bullets, pref in the 190-250gr range, spire point or round point only, rifle will not feed round nosed flat point.

I usually get them from ShellHouse but he isn't supplying them as cast, only with lube and gas checks which I don't need and they double the price.

Lee have a couple of suitable molds, C309-200-R and TL309-230-5R which is probably the better option if anyone has any of those?

So I guess you don't do cast bullets, Can Rog or Adam not help you. I will check my moulds but I don't think I have anything like the ones you quote. I have lots of wheel weights and range scrap etc but no suitable mould.

I've used the Lee .309-200 for over 30 years in 2 .308 target rifles and a K31. Good, reliable bullet. No feed issues and good for 2300 fps. For the 230gr. you may need a faster twist due to it's length.

Thanks, it shoots the Shell House 170gr RN pretty well but their 200gr with sharper points are mostly in the same hole at 25yds :)

The Ruger is a 1 in 7 twist rate.

if you order enough, I'm sure shellhouse would run a batch for you, lol. it means less work for him. but if he only has ones already lubed and checked on hand, he isn't going to run more to just have on stock

Asked him that and the answer was no, he can sell all the lubed and gas checked bullets he can cast, and obviously make a lot more money out of them.

So TL309-230-5R is your prefered option. How many bullets are you looking for.

10 or so to try out initially would be excellent, if they work as well as the 200gr ShellHouse spire points I'll need them in bulk as I use them at my indoor club.

At that point I may look at getting a mold and melter and trying to do it myself.

Problem is I have no outdoor space to do it, using the kitchen would be a problem as my cat is constantly going in/out of the kitchen window as it's her preferred entrance/exit.
