Just bought an old savage 99 in 22 savage. It came complete with a set of redding forming dies and reloading dies plus 200 227 diameter bullets, assorted brass and about 40odd old factory rounds.
I'm forming cases from federal 30/30 & 32 Win special brass but it's a pita especially removing all the brass that's been swaged into the new neck which ends uo aout 60 thou longer and about 3 - 4 thou greater in diameter with consequent feeding issues, I bottled out of firing it as the diameter with a 227 ullet loaded was 0.225", OK for 223 etc but a no no for my chamber.
I was about to press the button on a neck size tool but already had a 5.8 mm reamer ( same size as the bullets ) so reamed a few necks using a Lee case gage holder and a pillar drill and when a 225 (NB I know this is a small for bore size ) the neck diameter is 0.248", about 0.003" under the saami chamber spec. As I said all this is a pain in the butt on top of the reforming procedure.
So a couple of questions anyone anywhere Know of a source of any 22 savage brass OR 5.6x52R brass or 25.35 brass to lighten my load as I'm getting pee'd off with this rigmarole.

Re: 22 Savage
I have noticed a much cheaper option under the S&B case list at McAvoy guns. If they have stock is another matter.

Re: 22 Savage
peter. I've contacted them fora 100 as I'm having difficulty in obtaining a suitable neck size when forming from 30/30 brass. I have the two redding forming dies that I run the brass through and then through the FL resize die but the button seems to open it up so there will be little if any neck tension on the bullet/neck interface. To cap it all the neck, in this state, will not enter a separate crimping die though the redding one crimps the bullet it is clear that the neck is now large enough toreduce and,in some cases, eliminate any clearance betwixt neck and chamber.
I've taken to sizing the cases without the decap mandrel/ball installed then reaming the neck with a 5.8mm reamer, S&B bullets fall in as you can imagine them being only 0.2265" diameter, Hornady are a trifle better at 0.227 + a midges dick in diameter.
Ex factory brass, of which the Norma variety is excellent, there is no issue at all with either bullet. They shoot and cycle fine.
