.338 Lapua Magnum at Bisley
So the NRA have announced a couple of Guest Days at Bisley where they will allow .338 Lapua Magnum to be fired on Stixs range.
Guest Days, for those who aren't aware, are an opportunity for existing members to bring along a friend to shoot firearms that the member has authority to shoot.
.338 Lapua Magnum has been banned for use at Bisley for a number of years.
However, it seems that NRA Bisley is NOT reintroducing .338 Lapua Magnum for members shooting, other than for Guest Days.
So what is the point of doing this? Why introduce a Guest Day for a caliber that they will not be able to use at the camp? If they want new members, then surely stick with normal Guest Days with calibers they be able to progress with if they choose to take up the sport.

I'm glad they are introducing .338LM days. I've not shot my rifle for over a year due to restrictions and this will give me reason to keep my firearm.

Yes, sorry, members days not guest days - my bad.
However the point still stands = what's the point? Yes, might be a convenient for Sniper3 - but I doubt that was their reasoning.

It's that or nothing.
The point is, it is another day (or even days) where this cartridge can be shot.

Re: .338 Lapua Magnum at Bisley
It was precisely the NRAs reasoning that there was a need and a demand for facilities to shoot 338LM additional to the very few large civilian ranges that already have the capability. Given that Bisley danger area is not quite long enough to accommodate the standard MoD field firing template for .338LM, NRA has an innovative solution based on having an 85 yd and a 900 yd range available from the same firing point. Check zero using a process akin to but not identical to the standard HME process confirms functionality and sight settings directly on a special target at 85 yards. The firer may then, without changing anything (except windage allowance) lift his rifle a degree or thereabouts to take aim and fire at 900 yds. Because of the unique process, the NRA requires that the activity be supervised by a qualified member of NRA staff, thus, to keep the cost of that supervision to a reasonable level, a dedicated event is held to split the cost across a significant group of firers.
