SGC /FAC Coterminous Renewal.
As per Title.
Contacted Durham to determine current time for Coterminous SGC / FAC renewal.
Last renewal time my tickets came back separately & with an earlier expiry date,January, on the SGC than the FAC, April. My renewal was supposed to be coterminous. Did not think much about it. Now have been informed that cannot do coterminous based on SGC expiry, only on FAC. Meaning I must go through the whole procedure again.
In the reply Durham stated that it was a Home Office ruling that coterminous certificates can only be issued based on FAC renewal date.
I cannot find such a ruling in the Home Office Guidance to the Police..
If anyone knows where this ruling can be found please send a link to where it can be found.
Thanks
Regards
Yamavira.

Ah they would be referring to the HO ruling as made up on the hoof by Durham constabulary and never written down as the last thing would want is a consistent approach. They are driving the Donald Trump approach to firearms certification.

I've definitely read that its the case that you can only go co-terminous on the FAC renewal and not SGC in either legislation or guidance, i'll try to find the chapter and verse, but you aren't going to find anything that you can go back to them with AFAIK so I think you're snookered.

It's to do with being unable to legally shorten the life of a FAC, the duration of which is enshrined in law.
However its possible to cancel a SGC and then re-issue it with a new start date making it coterminous with the FAC. So Durham are not making it up but are are abiding with the rules with regard to this.

Is it possible for them to issue a short-term extension on the SGC to bring them together? That would also reduce their workload.
Did you request/pay for coterminous last time, if so, you have reasonabel grounds to request some "flexibility".

Re: SGC /FAC Coterminous Renewal.
Afternoon.
After the previous message from Durham I sent off an Email stating that the problem had been created by Durham & not myself.
Just received an Email from Durham. Apologies. Looked at my records & accepted previous tickets had been coterminous & my application for renewal in 2020 was for coterminous tickets.
send in my SGC & expiry date will be amnded to FAC expry date. I can then apply for coterminous tickets. Simples.
Good Result..
Worth the polite Email I sent to them pointing out their error..

so they are going to reissue a sgc and post that out to you, for you to then apply for a renewal where they will print another set of tickets off??

It might just be easier for them to send out the extensions as mentioned above, or wil it? Realistically though, it is just 5 minutes of their time to print and post.

Re: SGC /FAC Coterminous Renewal.
My orignal Email was to determine how long they were taking for renewals. Website said 10 months. My tickets expire Jan 2026. So was being pro active.
Renewals now taking around 4 months. So can relax until near the end of the year before chasing around for Medical reports etc.
Now all sorted. Good result.

I dont understand why people think renewals that take only a couple of months are are a good thing Cleveland renewals are on average two weeks. I can get a one for one the same day by letting them know I have an apointment then popping into the Police Hub and grabing a Cup of Coffee while they sort it out.
