Recent joined-I’m a regular sporting clays shooter and shotgun owner. I also plink targets with my air rifle. I would like to get an FAC so I can shoot sporting rifles at a range and ultimately out in the field stalking.
My shotgun certificate runs out in Aug 2025, I’m thinking of applying soon for renewal and new FAC together as it’s cheaper than separate applications.
1/. Do I need to go through the probational to full membership journey at rifle club before applying for FAC?
2/. Can I do training through BASC, is that enough to gain FAC or do I still need 1/.?
And thanks to dromia for sorting out my login
Thanks

Hello and welcome
If you want to target shoot, you must be a full member of a home office approved club.
If you want to hunt you'll require permission from a land owner or someone else able to give you permission, or perhaps have some paid stalks done or booked.
Either route often requires some experience or mentoring. The club probationary period and training give that, previous stalks or hunting especially with airrifles and/or a mentor are also in your favour. Hunting courses such as the DSC1 can help the application.
Do your research, take your time, gain experience and apply. You'll get the answers you need as you gain that experience.
Good luck.

Glad you made it here eventually.
I would eschew any options involving BASC and any other national body unless it is the absolute only way for you to get to where you want to be.
None of these shysters deserve the support of shooters and the shooting community.
