0.243 Rifle

#1 Post by Yamavira »

As MOD have banned the 6.5 calibres looking to find an alternative to shoot on the ranges.
Looking at 0.243. it has been on the go for many years as a deer calibre but what is it like as a target calibre??.
There are quite a few on the market at not too much money. As they are usually ex deer setups most have a scope & a moderator as part of a deal.
Would welcome comments from the forum.

Thanks

Excellent round with very good accuracy.

The only issue for using it for target shooting are the rifles, they all tend to be sporters.

Now a heavy "varmint" (as those yanques call it) would certainly do the business.

Personally I shoot the 6mm Musgrave and the 6mm Remington rather than the .243 Winchester. all very accurate.

As always twist rates dictate the length of the bullet you can use therefore how heavy it will be.

Stick to heavier bullets and be aware of any velocity limits on the range as lighter bullets may start exceeding the range limit. Otherwise it's a great calibre.
