Single barrel Sec1 shotgun

#1 Post by Dangermouse »

I fancy having a go at bench rest shotgun, dose anyone have a Sec1 single barrel shotgun that is so worthless they have not been bothered to try to sell it?

Something like a Mossberg Goose gun or a Harrington & Richardson with a rifled barrel,

Looking to pay sub £100 or maybe more for something with interesting features,

Dellboy,

Having a quick look at the Cooey, it appears to be SG only, afraid I only have a slot on my Sec1 so unless yours can take a magazine afraid that one will pass me by,

You might think so but no, a few in my club and who attend the target shotgun events are interested to have some fun exploring how accurate these can be - the Yanks already do it as they hunt with slug - we would be using slug.

We already have a comp at at 100 and 200 yards, but I fancy something a bit more sedate,
Here is the course of fire:

100 & 200 Yards Target Shotgun

Targets
1 x Wessex target at 100 yards
1 x PS10 target at 200 yards

Ammunition Type
Solid Slug / Ball only

Sights
Any

Positions
Standing unsupported at 100 yards
Sitting or Kneeling at 200 yards

Ready Position
Parallel

Course of Fire
This event is shot at 100 yards and 200 yards
This event takes approximately 90 minutes to complete
It requires 24 rounds
The maximum possible score is 150

Practise 1
100 yards 12 shots standing un-supported
2 compulsory sighting shots individually marked back
2 strings of 5 shots each in 30 seconds

Practice 2
200 yards 12 shots sitting or kneeling
2 compulsory sighting shots individually marked back
1 string of 10 shots in 12 minutes

Does it have to be a 12G? A mate shoots slug through a .410 and can hit trees at 100 yards apparently....

Graeme Clarke has a Harrington & Richardson but I doubt it will be sub £100 he has had it for quite a while though got to be worth a punt

Used to shoot shotgun slug many years a go.

Zero'd the barrel by bending in a vice 'tween three pieces of wood. Used to make "slug" by unpicking the crimp and pouring melted candle wax over the shot to the top.

Most likely illegal now.

If you do get a section 1 shotgun make sure any land your use it on is cleared for section 1.
