Just moved to the UK

#1 Post by AFA82 »

Hello everyone,
I have just moved to the UK and I thought the best way to start out (concerning firearms) is to join this forum.

A little about myself:

I have been a sport shooter for about 7 years now (4 years military before that) mainly in F-Class open matches and a little IPSC rifle.
In Australia, just like here, we are not allowed semi-auto rifles so thats where the F-class interest came from, but when I moved to Hungary and lived there for 2 years (just before I came here) I did a little IPSC rifle also.....unfortunately and obviously I had to give that up again for the move here and sell my L1A1 (And yes...I am a little heartbroken  ), so now its just F-class again.
So, now I'm here and I would like to get my firearms certificate so I can bring my rifle over from Hungary.

The one rifle I have now is a modified Weatherby Vanguard. 28" heavy Palma Lothar barrel, custom muzzle brake, fully bedded Manners composite stock, customised and tuned factory trigger, sinclair Tactical bipod and a Nightforce NXS 8-32 X 56 on a 20MOA Roedale pic. mount. If I do my part then its capable of shooting 1" groups at 300m with lapua 155 silver scenar handloads running at 2950fps.

As far as I know, I'll need two referees (check), be a member of a local shooting club (not yet), and then buy an appropriate safe to store my rifle in. When all this is done I hand my paperwork work in and then wait, is that right?

I'm in Cambridge and I'd like get back into F-class or some form of long range shooting, if anybody is in this area with the same interests I wouldn't mind getting in contact.

Cheers

Welcome to the UK and welcome to the Forum.

Sounds like a nice set up you have there and it being in Hungary must hurt slightly...

Cambridge and long range shooting, try Grove Small Arms Club.

Hi Attila and welcome to FBUK. You'll get plenty info on here re F Class shooting from experts and those currently shooting in the F Class League. There also plenty people in and around Cambridge that can help you out with a club and I believe you are also very close to some quality purveyors of relaoding components!
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

Yes. You require two referees, normally one needs to be an official in your gunclub. Probably best to join a club first, complete their probation period then apply for your Section 1 or/and 2 certificates. You require a firearm safe and a seperate ammunition safe. You will need these installed before your Firearms Licencing Officers pays you a visit.

Any questions, just ask :good:
