Proof ...
I know it is illegal to sell a shotgun that is out of proof.
However, can one be given or transferred to a new owner? And does it matter if they are told it is out of proof or not?
Yes, I know there are dangers in out of proof guns but want to know the legal position of the person transferring ownership.

Re: Proof ...
Are we talking a Section 58 firearm, or a S1 or 2?
If it's S58 then you can simply "give" it to them, as S58s are off-ticket.

Re: Proof ...
I believe the gun proof act mentions it being an offence to: offer for sale, sell, exchange or export a small arm which is out of proof.
So unless it's an antique, you're legally snookered.

Bugger.
Hmmm... interesting. Like yourself I know it cannot be sold, but I've never heard of a someone transferring an un-proofed firearm before that wasn't S58.
Not much help there, sorry.
Might be best to quietly ask your FLO
