I picked up some yellow tipped HB from FRS a few years ago, first time shot was in Christels SVD, at 100m at Barton Road to confirm zero. I was rash enough to shoot it wearing just a T shirt and nothing had prepared me for the kick, shooting was something like BANG, mutter Ouch! BANG, mutter Ouch! BANG, mutter Ouch!

I researched the round afterwards and found one site listing it as 'semi armour piercing'

Sorry to but in but what ammo are people using in their Nagants for long range shooting (600yds +)? Does milsurp do the job or does it have to be handloads? If the latter, what loads are people using?

Cheers!

Hi no worries.

Heavyball used to be okay out to 800. any more than that I use prvi 182g and (on a good day) is on the money at 1000. I do not handload yet, but can guess handloading can only be better

I've tried milsurp at 300mtrs and it wasnt good to be honest...it was like i'd unloaded buckshot at the target.I didnt think to grab some Privi so cannot say what it would be like.

Light Ball at a few hundred metres should be fine, after 5-600 it looses a bit however the HB seems to crack on to 1000, I was watching (Putting off! ) Dirtbag at 1000 yesterday and he was doing well with his PPV factory loads as well.

Hi Dr Strangelove.

Ah reloads for Mosin's this is what I use, but I never give load powder weight data. Load may be to heavy for your rifle.

Sierra Matchking 174gr HPBT .311 dia
Hodgdon H4895 powder
CCI Large rifle primers
Lapua S&B Privi Brass, Started with new F/L sized loaded fired trimmed to length neck size only then reload. Works for me..

Thanks for the replies guys! I saw somewhere that someone just pulled the rounds (from milsurp ammo), checked the weight of the powder and reloaded, apparently that worked quite well for shorted distances.

Is the stuff from Ammo Zone light ball? Where do you guys get HB from?
