Re: Wheel Weights
I used to get wheel weights for free from my local tyre depot but hardly any body uses lead wheel weights any more.I added plumbers solder for hardness.
I have two large buckets full of wheel weights and a cuboard full of ingots I have smelted.
I am reluctant to use them because I know when they are gone its probably the end of my casting days.

Re: Wheel Weights
Dromia,
Thanks for the info, I think I'll sort them as much as I can and then go for the melting option.
My main concern with melting was the Zamak (melting point of between 379—390 °C, 714—734 °F) being only slightly above the lead (327°C, 621°F) and my skill first time round. :)
Dromia (or anyone else for that matter),
This is question is more theoretical, have you made any or thought about making boolits out of Zinc or Zamak? I've read on the Cast Boolits forum of people casting zinc boolits with mixed success and I was just wondering about it, like I said in a theoretical sense.

I'd read about what zinc does to the lead and while the melting temps are different, I wanted to avoid any nasty surprises.Don't let the zinc melt into the alloy as you will end up with an uncastable porridge consistency.

Yes I have thought about it and spoken to a few people who have tried it with varying degrees of success, zinc bullets like steel shot can be made to work in its own way but from what I've seen and been told, personally I'll stick with lead for boolits and shot untill I'm forced to do otherwise.
Still its good to know that some people are breaking the ground for that awful and not needed day when lead is a no no.

Not quite the reply I was expecting, but thank you!

Re: Wheel Weights
Sea Wolf is just about to start casting and has managed to get very cheap lead from Ebay of all places and the postage was very cheap.
