I am on the verge of buying a Steyr SSG-04 in .308/7.62 thats been lightly used on the range. I have the option of with and without scope. The scope in question is a Lupold LRT 6.5-20x50, and adds £350 to the cost of the rifle. Has anybody got an oppinion on this scope, and do you think I can pickup a better set of optics for around the same money (new or used). The main use of the setup is 600+ m target bashing, but I hope to get the chance to go stalking at some point.
Cheers
Jon

Re: Scope question
It seems like a reasonable price for the 'scope and the LRT has 'tactical' or target drums so no caps to remove for adjustment plus they have maybe 70MOA of elevation which will get you out to anything you want to shoot at. I assume it has a set of rings included with the rifle/scope?
EDIT - just a thought, make sure you are comfortable with the reticle.

Re: Scope question
Make sure you like the reticle and the glass.
Price seems fine.

Re: Scope question
Personally - NOT a fan of scopes with a 50mm reticle - BUT, if you like the scope I'll agree with the first 2 replies = bloody good price for that model
BUT
You failed to mention what make of scope rings/bases are with the rig.
These are as important as the rifle/scope - NOT an area to consider saving money on

Re: Scope question
I had a Leupold MK4 8-25x50 , good glass, faultlessly tracked
but my only gripe is the varying eye relief when you change the zoom however
thats a good price

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Re: Scope question
Cheers for the info, I am going ahead with the purchase of the rifle and scope. If I strugge wth the scope will px it against something else.
