Another hello from Scotland :)
Hi,
I'm not too much of a forum person, so you won't see to many posts from me :). Just an occasional fullbore target shooter from Edinburgh Uni. Just came across this forum for two reasons. We're currently looking for a new (or barely S/H) target .308W rifle and we've got some lovely items for sale (fundraising being called nowadays) that might bear some interest to you. Would I be allowed to put it in the sale section? :)

Re: Another hello from Scotland :)
I just had a look at your clubs website.
I went to the gym at the pleasance about 15 years ago, and there was a poster up as advertising for the university rifle club that went something like " we get people with all levels of experience, from I've used my brother's super soaker, to I shot an M16 with a couple of thousand rounds of dud ammo!"
Any idea if the range in Waverley still exists?

For instance there was an underground rifle range from the era of World War 2 under Waverley Station, which at one time could be accessed through the basement kitchen of the ‘X’ Hotel.

DL.: You are actually the first person who has ever mentioned this. From what I know, we are the only club in the city centre itself. The rest of Edinburgh/lothian clubs are generally on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The facility itself as you've mentioned it is probably still there, as dungeons get rarely destroyed here. However, I have never heard of that being used. This year I was lucky enough to meet one of your alumni ladies who was actually co-founding the club in the very early stages. She mentioned that they used to practice outdoors somewhere around Holyrood area and that she witnessed the transition into the CSE basement facilities. That was around 1950 I guess. The Edinburgh Uni Rifle Club must have somewhat really long and interesting history, worth recording it... if only there was time for it! If I find more info about the Waverley facility, I'll let you know. Btw CSE has changed a lot in the past 3 years, so I guess after 15 you wouldn't recognise it at all . The club is still a crazy bunch though!
Dromia: Thanks for the PM, I'll try my best. Otherwise I'll let you know if 5 turns out to be impossible in a reasonable time-scale without spamming here .
Many thanks for a warm welcome everybody! I'll try to achieve 5 relevant posts, although, as I said, not too much of a forum person.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

Hi Jojo, welcome to FBUK from up here in Dundee.
It's not the pace of life that concerns me, it's the sudden stop at the end!
