I probably shouldn't be in control of my own finances!

#1 Post by Dr. Strangelove »

Well, against what others would probably deem as better judgement, I got a new rifle yesterday!

Custom Sako L579 with a Border barrel (only 100 rds fired), McMillan A5 stock, Harris bipod and Swarovski 8x56.

Anyway, I know I'll get slated without posting pictures so without further ado:

Disappointingly dirty so gave it a thorough clean last night.

I'll be looking to change the 'scope for something along the lines of a Leupold Mk4. I'll be using the rifle for target shooting. Anybody got any ideas for that? Registered on The Stalking Directory and will give McLeods of Tain a ring on Monday.

.308. First shoot with it tomorrow. Only 100yds but I'll get an idea of it. Does anyone have any experience with GGG 7.62 NATO headstamped ammo? I've got 200rds and have seen good reports from shooters across the pond.

GGG was used in the McQueen (sniping) competition last year at Bisley. There were no complaints. It has been used by Gresham's School in training; at least one cadet made 50.10 at 600 yd under TR conditions. We tested some alongside the RUAG for the 2011 Imperial Meeting. Group size was approaching double the RUAG groups, which would mean about a 110mm group at 300 metres (RUAG spec is 67 mm at 300 metres and the supplied ammo has always been substantially better than spec) - good enough to hold the bull, but the cadet with 50.10 was probably a bit lucky.

Had a Leupold LRT Mk4 with MilDot reticle, fitted to my AE, boringly accurate. Mainly used to 500/600 yards but did the biz at 900 using milsurp.

BTW: Happy New rifle

I think the rifle's being concealed/hidden from critical eyes under the quilt.

Hope it wasn't a body, news to me if it was!

Yup, although at it's lowest setting it works for me so I guess just a nice additional feature.

I was just thinking about how many people take pictures of their rifles on their beds  Some may think it had a hidden meaning.

Nice rifle.

Worth spending money on!!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?
