Patcham Chattri

#1 Post by Jenks »

On a recent visit to Brighton, I took the opportunity to visit the Royal Pavilion. My main interest was the exhibition detailing the period when the Pavillion was used as an Army Hospital for the treatment of Indian soldiers wounded in WW1

Those that succumbed to their wounds were cremated on the downs just outside Brighton. The Muslims were buried at the Shah Jahan Mosque in Woking.

The weather was perfect so we decided to visit the site of the Burning Ghats on the downs. It is now a war memorial and has a Chattri (Hindu for Umbrella) built where the bodies were cremated.

Ginger..

Is there a Clay shoot there? we went on a Sunday morning and I could hear quite a bit of shooting going on from below the Chattri sounded too loud for .22LR.
Beautiful setting for sure.

There is a gallery rifle range at Patcham and they do shoot on a Sunday so it may have been them you heard.
