Sorry forgot to mention my location! I'm based down in Sussex. I currently shoot a tikka T3 in 223 1in8 twist that I'm trying to pimp up as I go. My ticket is away for renewal at the moment and should come back with slots for a 308&6.5 on it.

Ovenpaa I've not really made my kind up on the 6.5. I'd like to be able to use the 144grain lapua bullet but also want a reasonable barrel life. I was thinking 6.5x55

The 6,5SE is a very accurate cartridge and the newer chambers capable of withstanding higher pressures make for a good long distance tool. I shoot Christels 6,5-284 S&L quite often with Lap 139's and N560 and it is a stunningly accurate rifle but barrel life could be an issue. It is running at 2900fps as it is shot three position and I still manage to hold good scores at longer distances.

I've looked at the 6.5-284 but I've heard horror stories about barrel life of less than 1000 rounds. I'm going to save up and think I'll get a 6.5x55 built on a T3 action throated for the 144 grain lapua as it seem to have a really good bc

I went for straight 284 to get better barrel life and excellent ballistics
