Service Rifle Shoot Blairadam

#1 Post by 25Pdr »

The Shandon RPC had a Service Rifle Shoot at Blairadam Range in Fife yesterday...Shot at 200x

Image

Our Club Members seem to favour the wood and steel type guns although there are a few plastic types as well.

As I've mentioned before in order not to disturb recent residents, we have to shoot through barrels to help keep the noise down, got to watch the Coal Burners don't set fire to the foam lining though. ;)

The line up on our new covered firing point... :good:

Nice wee selection of real guns....

Aye - BSA is a very good venue

Was supposed to be there last week but the rain here was too bad

Looking forward to the 500m point getting the same treatment as the 200m one

I also like Blairadam as it dates back to the days of the Volunteer Rilfe Associations!

What's with the barrels? Looks like the range is in the middle of nowhere so I'm presuming not noise. But that said, surely the noise and pressure is increased for the shooter...... a lot!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Nope - NOISE

There is a small cross-roads about half a mile away

A newer resident is kicking off about the fact that the range is next to their "new" house !
...the range dates to the 1860's - so it's BEEN there for 150 years

They'll have more of a noise pollution issue from the adjacent M90 motorway - fookin muppets

The barrels are only used when the shooter has no moderator on his rifle - so MOST classic guns.
The BIGGEST problem with the barrels is that the sheep have recently started eating the foam liners - which both kills the noise reduction as the foam is not too healthy a snack for the sheep

But shooting through a barrel, does that not amplify the noise, like a mega-phone?

Standing outside the firing point, the noise just seems the same as on a normal range. Don't know if they ever tried sound measurement in the past, would be interesting to get hold of a sound level meter.

Saddler....Yes! It would be nice if they covered the 500x point. Our club just hire the range, do you know if there ar any plans to cover the 500x point?

Would also be nice if they had some method of automatically raising the top flag instead of having to send a small boy up the 250 feet hill to raise it manually.
