To owners of these pistols , i quite fancy one and i realise they are not an olympic standard pistol for accuracy , but say over 20 yds what groups are you getting in the " real world ".

Not very good at all, from what I've seen. My mate has one. To look at, they are not bad. Pick one, slam in a mag, rack the slide and let 10 rounds of Remy Viper down range, it feels great! But, his is lucky to shoot anything under 5 inches at 25 yds. He's tried all sorts of ammo, but non is worse than the other, they all shoot around the 5 to 6 inches.

But, this one is not the only one I've seen. Another bloke in the club has one, with the same results and he has all the Gucci parts ftted including Briley bushing! My Taurus .22 LBR shames both of the GSG 1911's.

Allegedly, the Low Mill 1911 is a shooter, but I've never seen one in the flesh...... and they're 1200 quid!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

There is a lot of play between the barrel and the barrel-bushing on the GSG 1911 pistols. A 'fix' is to fit a custom bushing. I did a feature on this using a Briley bushing in Target Shooter magazine a few issues ago. With the bushing fitted - about two inches at 25 yds for ten shots, if I remember correctly, using CCI MiniMag. It will cycle with lower velocity 'target' ammo. which might group even better.

It certainly improved grouping to acceptable 'Practical pistol' level. It's no target pistol but fulfills the criteria that most shooters buy them for - fun!

Thanks all , pretty much what i was expecting , interesting about the Briley bush adding a bit more accuracy , maybe this would be a good mod to do.

One of my customers brought one in to me a few weeks back. He had purchased it second hand from a fellow club member who also could not get it to shoot consistently. There was a fair bit of slide-barrel movement but no worse than on the "real thing" but it struggled to put more than five out of ten on a sheet of A4. I noticed that the crown was somewhat less than concentric, re-crowned it for him and it now shoots 2-3" at 25yds (with the standard bushing in place). Still not great but a damn sight better.....

we were comparing different club members pistols when it was noticed that some hardly had any crowning at all and that the crown itself looked 'lop sided' i assume this is what you are talking about . I'll see how it goes , you might be getting another to re crown

Yes - that is exactly the case with the example I dealt with recently. Without a concentric crown you are on a hiding-to-nothing as far as accuracy is concerned. Please feel free to PM me and I will send you my work details.

I am currently tuning a TSC 1911. I have manufactured and fitted a close fitting barrel bush so there is no 'play' in the barrel. The hammer and sear have been modified as has the leaf spring. Relevant surfaces polished. A work in progress for when I have a spare 5 minutes. When I have shot some groups I will post the results.

My God! If a manufacturer can't crown a barrel concentric to the bore then I wouldn't trust the engineering standards or quality control on the rest of the gun :o

I've been working on getting the GSG(TSC) to group a little better, I'm planning on replacing the horrible moulded plastic sights but last night by aiming off half a target width to the left and just under a target height low I have it doing this at 50 Yards with Eley Club

Once I have some nice target sights on the gun I'll be able to get a better idea of actual grouping but I'm fairly confident I'll be shooting it at 100 yards on open sights later this year ;-)

Nick
