SD - Good point however have you looked at the figures from other manufacturers? We are out testing the SuperChrono against a PVM-21 very shortly to see how the two compare.

That's an interesting bit of kit - I borrowed a very basic one, but couldn't get it to work indoors due to the lighting, and never got to use it outdoors due to not having an opportunity to set it up between details.

I'm going to risk some possibly stupid questions - What is the optimum distance away from the rifle it can be used? What's the nearest it can be to the rifle?...and is there any reason (NRA rule or practical) why it could not be put out infront to use on a pole/plank when you like?

I reckon the fall off / gap in front of the firing points (and ditches in some places) will be the problem.

If however you had a 12 or 15 foot plank that you could place directly under your shooting mat and use your body weight?!!
Transport it could be interesting!

Firstly, there are none are the issues of poor lighting as the SuperChrono works in pitch black and without the need for IR light sources or screens, just lay it on the floor pointing at the target and shoot.

Secondly the SuperChrono can be used at any distance as long as the bullet is supersonic So this means you can place it immediately in front of the target to determine down range MV's when calculating true BC's and even midway as long as the bullet is within the sensing area which incidentally is up to 30x more than other chronos.

The manufacturers state the minimum muzzle to SuperChrono distance should be no less than 10"/25cm however I always work to 10 feet/3m when I chrono.

The Rolls Royce of Chronographs used to be the Oehler Model 35, and due to demand the 20 year old design went back into production in 2010. With 1 foot screen spacing at 3000 fps the error is quoted as 16 fps - about 0.5 % (similar to the SuperChrono). Extend the screen spacing to 8 feet and the error falls to 2 fps - about 0.07% (nearly an order of magnitude better).

Yes, I am using the Oehler with the screen spacing extended to 8 feet. It's cumbersome to set up, but gets the results I need for 1000x load development.

The claimed accuracy of the PVM-21 is worse than the Steinert - it's more expensive and not as compact!

Shhhh! My neighbour has just got himself a PVM-21.

I know it sounds daft ( ), but that is along the lines I was thinking...

....A problem for an engineer (Ovenpaa?) - How much does it weigh?...could a suitable extendable device be anchored to a grass bank...?

As an update, the first and second batch of SuperChronos are in the country and have been sitting in Customs Clearance Coventry for a few days now which is rather frustrating. The moment the clear and arrive here we will ship them out to those that have placed orders for them.

Let me know when they are in before posting as depending on the date I might need it sending to Scotland.
