I can see the preference for moderators being another slippery slope for restricting shooting and shooters, especially for people shooting historic where moderators are not an option.

Protecting your hearing on the range is surely the responsibility of the individual not the other shooters, if you are around guns firing then loud bangs comes with the territory so people should muff up accordingly.

I put recoil reduction on my form and my FEO/FLO was fine with it. Definitely better than getting us whacked with the 'Elf-in Safely stick!

I have seen at least one application which quoted recoil reduction as the good reason for a moderator on a .22" RF. I guessed it was because there isn't much noise to moderate? smile2

variation is in hearing protection reason given

lots of clubs have wriggly tin covered firing points add to that mixed group of users black powder, rimfire, my 9mm, leaver actions & a cannon.
Hearing damage can be done even with the best protection, on an open range not such an issue on closed ranges?
