I am forever thinking of what to build next and how to overcome the limits of my ability and lathe.

The Derringer, scratch built? Was it based on plans and how close to the original is it other than half size? I am also interested in the tumbler, I have been looking for a similar container for a while so I can build one for myself.

This morning I was musing over an automated annealing machine using an linear actuator as a pusher so the cases are moved in a straight line instead of rotating, mostly because I cannot find a suitable source of material for the platen, the improvising is as much fun as the building.

I made the pistol in about 1970ish when I was at sea with plenty of time on my hands. I had no plans only photos in an article in Guns and Ammo. I only had hand tools and a post drill, no lathe so a lot of filing. It is 1/8th bore and at the time fired a normal pistol primer. I had to thin the back of the primers right down as I coundn't get enough wack on the small spring.
Here are a couple of very similar originals

The tumbler I made in the mid 80's when I was shooting a lot of UIT pistol. It took about 100 .32 S&W Long cases. The drum is a plastic drain pipe connector. You can buy these in larger sizes at somewhere like Wickes. I have also seen some containers in the window of our local health food shop that would be ok. I managed to get the motors cheap at a surplus electrical shop near Brighton and also the cooker timers. I made and sold about 40 of these at the time, many in kit form.

I have seen a Youtube video of someone using a press to lift a case up into an induction loop for annealing - it looked very effective.

That pistol is lovely!

We were talking about carrying the other day and I said to Ovenpaa that if it was legal then I would carry a small wild west style pistol.
Ok, maybe not that small :)
