Let me have some club names and I can at least say whether it was email or post.

You are a bad man Dromia, there never has been a North South divide with me, nor any ism's or ist's.

What I can't understand is why some clubs leave it so late to chase things like this up? It's also been on the website since October in exactly the same place as last year and the year before....

I have my safe shooters certificate as that came from my club (The Foresters Shooting Association, Bracknell) but I have not received my new membership card from the NRA.

What I don't understand is why the renewal happens in the middle of January if the old membership card expires at the end of December. If you want to hire a lane at Bisley in the first two or three weeks of January will they take it on trust that you're going to renew your membership?

Yeah I have been thinking that as well.

It is odd there is a 3 week gap. Fair to say I do not normally shoot that time of year but that is not the point, even if I would I couldn't due to not having any valid cards.

I did consider changing it this year but wasn't sure if it would be appreciated just before Christmas. It used to be fine doing direct debits in Jan as there weren't a huge number of people on it then but now we have over 3000. Let me know if you would be happy with your DD going out before Xmas.

The range office don't have to take you at your word as the database that they access shows that you pay by DD.

The cards will start going in the post tomorrow although it takes a little while to get them all printed and packed.

Before Xmas is fine as far as I am concerned.

So that's a month into the new shooting year when we get them! Why not send them out earlier?

If it's not going to cause you a lot of trouble I'd certainly prefer to renew my membership and have my new card before the expiration of the old one. I will PM you my full details and NRA number.

While I've got your attention, perhaps I could ask you a question about the safe shooters card. Mine has the categories I am eligible to shoot ticked and the others scored through but I noticed that the card says that the ticks ought to have been initialled but this has not been done. Is this likely to cause me trouble?

Regards,
Paul.

We used to but then people started canceling their DD's but not sending their cards back. Considering that your card entitles you to hire a firearm, buy ammo off FAC and shows you have the required insurance, a decision was made that cards are sent out once we have payment.

Having taken both the comments here and from elsewhere into account I'll put the suggestion that we move the DD run to the 1st (ish) December which gives us a chance to get the cards in the post before Christmas.
